STATES & DISTRICTS / INDIANA / INDIANAPOLIS
Use this Indianapolis guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Use Indiana’s central crash-report repository
Indiana State Police is the central repository for Indiana crash reports, including reports investigated by local agencies. Its official page directs electronic purchases to BuyCrash. Keep the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police or other investigating agency’s name with the case number and date when searching.
A general incident-report request is a different process. Indianapolis provides a separate route for incident records identified by date, time, location, incident type, and involved people. Do not assume an ordinary incident-report request or a traffic map automatically provides the crash-report copy your insurer needs.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
Additional Indianapolis records have a separate route
The city’s incident-report service can help with records beyond a crash purchase. Describe the document you need and retain any request confirmation. A metropolitan location may involve another municipality or state police, so the agency on the original paperwork remains the best starting point. Requesting a copy does not submit a new report or determine insurance coverage.
Official traffic resources: Indianapolis area
Indiana 511 provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated Indianapolis feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
