STATES / FLORIDA / MIAMI

“Miami” can describe the City of Miami or a much wider part of Miami-Dade County. Before ordering a crash report, identify the agency that investigated and the municipality where the collision occurred.

LOCAL ROAD SAFETY CONTEXT

Read Miami-Dade safety data at the right geographic level

Miami-Dade’s Vision Zero Hub brings together regional road-safety and crash-information resources. Countywide findings include more than the City of Miami and should not be presented as city-only statistics.

When exploring the hub, check the selected municipality, study period, and whether the measure counts crashes, injured people, or fatalities. Those measures answer different questions and cannot be substituted for one another.

Start with the Florida crash-report portal

FLHSMV is the state’s official crash-record repository. Its crash-report page explains ordering, access requirements, and report availability. Review those instructions before paying or providing identifying information; an alert appearing online does not mean the report is ready to order.

Match the request to the investigating agency

  • City of Miami Police: Use the city’s official department page to reach Miami Police and confirm the appropriate records route.
  • Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office: Use its Public Records Center for records it holds. Its records page includes online requests and appointment instructions for in-person service.
  • Another city or Florida Highway Patrol: Follow the agency named on the officer’s paperwork. A county records search does not establish whether a separate municipal department has your report.

Current traffic sources: Miami area

Florida 511 offers incident, closure, congestion, and camera information. Select the Miami area and read the event details. Congestion, construction, and disabled vehicles are separate from crashes, and the absence of an event is not proof that local roads are clear.

Keep your location and request details together

Save the crash date, nearby intersection or exit, direction of travel, municipality, agency, and report number. If your vehicle was towed, retain the operator and storage-location information with receipts. Use our rental and towing guide to organize the costs.

Florida rules and next steps

The Florida state guide covers statewide report access and general lawsuit deadlines. Keep those statewide rules separate from local records procedures. Use the accident checklist to track the documents and follow-up tasks you still need.
