STATES & DISTRICTS / CALIFORNIA / SAN JOSE
Use this San Jose guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Order through the San Jose Police Records Unit
SJPD provides online, in-person, and mail routes for vehicle accident reports. Start with the vehicle-accident page and follow the department’s current ordering link; the separate general report-request form asks applicants to confirm the incident occurred in San Jose and that they are entitled to receive the record.
Keep the SJPD report number and incident date together. For an in-person request, check the Records Unit’s current hours and instructions at 201 West Mission Street before traveling. Use the linked fee schedule rather than relying on an older quoted price. A nearby Santa Clara County location may involve a different police department.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
Safety corridors are planning information
San Jose’s Vision Zero maps and data identify traffic-safety priorities and corridors for improvements. A corridor layer describes a planning network, not a stream of newly occurring crashes. Check the study years and geographic boundaries before comparing a location with another street; do not use a priority designation to assign fault for an individual collision.
Official traffic resources: San Jose area
Caltrans QuickMap provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated San Jose feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
