STATES & DISTRICTS / CALIFORNIA / LONG BEACH
Use this Long Beach guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Request a report from Long Beach Police
Long Beach Police provides an application to mail or hand-deliver to its Information Management Division at 400 West Broadway. Its instructions call for a copy of photo identification with a mailed request. Insurance requests include a policy or claim number, and attorney requests require signed authorization.
Check the current webpage for fees and processing guidance; older downloadable forms may show different amounts. Processing can be lengthy, so retain your submission confirmation and use the department’s published status-contact route. This guide concerns Long Beach, California. Long Beach, New York has a different police department and request process.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
Separate a city investigation from a freeway incident
A Long Beach street address does not make a collision an LAPD case. Keep the investigating department from the officer’s paperwork. For freeway incidents, Caltrans and CHP resources can help identify regional traffic conditions, but they do not replace Long Beach Police records or establish who was at fault. Record the ramp, direction, and nearest exit when the location is near a freeway.
Official traffic resources: Long Beach area
Caltrans QuickMap provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated Long Beach feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
