STATES & DISTRICTS / CALIFORNIA / OAKLAND

Use this Oakland guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Start with Oakland’s vehicle-collision report page

Oakland Police provides online, in-person, and mail options for vehicle-collision reports. Use its dedicated collision-report instructions to choose the appropriate request route and review eligibility. Privacy restrictions and an ongoing investigation may affect what can be released.

Scene photographs, video, and body-camera material have separate request options. List the record types you need rather than assuming the basic collision report contains them. Keep the Oakland report number and request confirmation together; a freeway investigation by CHP or a collision in a neighboring municipality may need another agency’s process.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Oakland’s High Injury Network is a planning tool

The city’s 2024 High Injury Network identifies streets and intersections where severe and fatal crashes have concentrated. It supports traffic-safety priorities and should be read with its underlying study period. A network designation is not a prediction about your trip or a finding about a particular driver. Use current traffic information separately when checking whether a road is affected now.

Caltrans QuickMap provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
