STATES & DISTRICTS / ARIZONA / MESA

Use this Mesa guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Use the Mesa route for noncriminal accident reports

Mesa Police’s Criminal Justice Information Division offers online access to noncriminal accident reports from February 24, 2009 onward. The process asks for the departmental report number, known as the DR number, the accident date, and payment information.

Other police records follow the department’s general records process. Mesa’s separate online non-emergency reporting form is for eligible new reports; it is not the way to retrieve an existing accident report. Check the agency name before ordering, especially for a crash on a state highway or near another city’s boundary.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Mesa’s safety goal is not an achieved crash reduction

Mesa adopted its Comprehensive Safety Action Plan in May 2025. The plan sets a goal of reducing fatal and serious-injury crashes by 30% by 2030. Treat that number as a target, not a reported result. Review the city’s plan and implementation material for the analysis period and priority locations rather than interpreting the target as current crash statistics.

AZ511 provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
