STATES & DISTRICTS / KENTUCKY / LOUISVILLE

Use this Louisville guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Request an LMPD report through the official portal

Louisville Metro Police’s report-copy page asks for the report number, report date, and a driver or owner surname, and links to its online request service. Access to accident reports is limited to eligible involved parties or representatives, with identification requirements where applicable.

The department describes a response and payment process after the request; it is not a guarantee that every report is immediately available. Reports filed through Kentucky State Police’s website must be obtained through KSP. LMPD’s separate Report an Accident service files a new report rather than retrieving an existing officer’s report.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Regional highway information is a separate resource

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s incident-management resources direct travelers to GoKY for roadway information. Check the road, direction, county, and event date. Regional highway restrictions can extend beyond Louisville Metro Police’s investigation area, and a traffic alert does not establish that an LMPD report exists or is ready for release.

Official traffic resources: Louisville area

GoKY provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.

This opens an external service. An automated Louisville feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
