Document missed work and expenses

A dated record is more useful than an estimate reconstructed months later.

RESOURCE GUIDE · FIRST EDITION

Record missed time

Note dates, hours, and the reason for missed work. Keep relevant employer correspondence and pay records. Self-employed people may also need invoices, contracts, and business records.

Separate paid from outstanding costs

Save bills and proof of payment. Identify who paid each expense so that the same amount is not counted twice.

Use a running tracker

Add expenses as they occur and export your records regularly. The tracker totals the amounts you enter; it does not estimate a settlement or decide which expenses are recoverable.
