STATES & DISTRICTS / COLORADO / DENVER
Use this Denver guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Choose the right Denver records request
Denver Police’s basic crash-report route is different from its Civil Liability Investigation Report process. The latter applies to cases such as fatalities or serious bodily injury, juvenile involvement, active investigations, city vehicles, or sealed crashes. Review the current exceptions before purchasing a basic report.
The department does not hold motorist reports self-filed through the state’s online crash-reporting service. It describes typical basic-report availability after a case closes, not simply after the collision date. Photographs, 911 audio, dispatch records, and video are separate records; availability and redactions vary.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
Use Colorado crash data for historical context
Colorado DOT provides crash-analysis resources and dashboards. Choose the appropriate geography, years, and injury measures before comparing Denver with surrounding communities. Statewide reporting datasets are not live dispatch systems, and the availability of an incident on a traveler map does not establish whether a police report is ready.
Official traffic resources: Denver area
COtrip provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated Denver feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
