It finds that roads outside the TxDOT system accounted for 47% of fatal and serious-injury crashes, despite representing 16% of vehicle miles traveled.

The same analysis found that bicycle, pedestrian, and motorcycle crashes together represented 4% of all crashes but 34% of fatal and serious-injury crashes.

These historical findings explain why local streets and vulnerable road users matter alongside freeway alerts. Follow the link on that official page and review eligibility and payment requirements before ordering.

The department says a crash may take up to 14 days to appear in search results. If you still cannot find it after that period, FWPD directs you to its Police Records unit at 817-392-4160.

FWPD current crash-report instructions ↗

If the report is missing from the search

Check your crash date, the spelling of the involved names, and the agency shown on the officer’s card. Keep a copy of your search details before contacting Records. An empty search result does not prove that no report was made, and a traffic-map entry does not mean a completed report is ready.

Check road conditions around Fort Worth

DriveTexas provides an official route for checking reported road conditions and closures. Use its county and roadway filters for the part of your trip you need to review. For example, distinguish I-35W from I-35E when describing a location; the interstate number alone may not identify the correct road.

Open DriveTexas road conditions ↗

The Fort Worth snapshot above automatically checks the city’s accident source every five minutes while this page is open. DriveTexas remains a separate external road-information service, not a complete record of every local collision. Check it before driving, not while behind the wheel.

Keep crash reports separate from other records

If you need a different record, describe that record specifically when contacting the department. An insurance claim number, a police incident number, and a crash-report search are different identifiers and processes. Keep all three clearly labeled in your claim file.

Was the crash elsewhere in DFW?

Use the investigating agency rather than the nearest major city. For a Dallas Police investigation, our Dallas guide explains the city’s records-request route.
