STATES & DISTRICTS / CALIFORNIA / SACRAMENTO
Use this Sacramento guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Use Sacramento’s dedicated traffic-report instructions
Sacramento Police distinguishes traffic-report requests from general crime reports. Traffic reports have online and mail routes. The department describes typical availability of five to ten days and asks users to contact Records if a report is unavailable after ten days; individual cases can take longer.
Some collisions are not available through the online route, including cases with no SPD response and certain private-property, serious-injury, fatality, or hit-and-run cases. Read the current exceptions before paying. For a mail request, gather the report number, date, location, parties, vehicle details, and any required authorization.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
Dispatch data and police reports answer different questions
Sacramento’s public data portal distinguishes computer-aided dispatch data from records-management reports. A dispatch entry describes a call for service; a report is a different record produced through the investigation and reporting process. Neither a public data row nor an incident map replaces a requested personal report copy. Check dataset dates before drawing conclusions about current road conditions.
Official traffic resources: Sacramento area
Caltrans QuickMap provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated Sacramento feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
