STATES & DISTRICTS / COLORADO / AURORA
Use this Aurora guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Distinguish officer reports from self-filed reports
Aurora Police directs purchases of officer-completed, on-scene crash reports to CrashDocs. Its FAQ says those reports cannot be purchased directly from the department. Search with the involved party’s surname, crash date, and the report number in the format described by the city.
Reports self-filed online are not accessible through Aurora Police or CrashDocs; the city directs users to the Colorado Department of Revenue. Photos, 911 recordings, and body-camera records use a separate criminal-justice-record request through NextRequest. A general records backlog does not necessarily describe the CrashDocs process.
LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
Keep city and state data boundaries visible
Colorado DOT’s crash-data resources can provide historical context for Aurora-area roads. Use the city or county filter that fits your question and check the reporting years. A statewide dataset, a motorist self-report, and an officer’s report are different records. None should be treated as a complete real-time account of local road conditions.
Official traffic resources: Aurora area
COtrip provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated Aurora feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
