STATES & DISTRICTS / COLORADO / COLORADO SPRINGS

Use this Colorado Springs guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Select a Police Traffic Accident Report

Colorado Springs Police distinguishes its Police Traffic Accident Report request from a general Police Case Report, which covers criminal or other nontraffic matters. Use the Police Records page’s Submit a Request route and select the document type you actually need.

CSPD holds its officers’ reports, but not a motorist report filed online or mailed to the state. Dispatch calls-for-service logs are not police reports. Photos and body-camera material require separate requests, so identify the record types and date range rather than assuming they come with a crash-report copy.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Historical crash figures can change

The CSPD crash-data portal explains that its records are continuously updated. Repeating a query for a past period can therefore produce a different result after corrections or new information. Keep the retrieval date with any statistics and use the accident number as the records identifier. This historical database does not indicate which roads are currently blocked.

COtrip provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
