STATES & DISTRICTS / FLORIDA / TAMPA

Use this Tampa guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Choose Tampa Police’s records route

Tampa Police’s Records Section lists the Florida Crash Portal, a city online records portal, mail, and in-person options. Its mail instructions identify items such as a report number, identification copy, and return envelope. Law firms and insurers have additional statement requirements.

Use the official page for your requester category and current fees rather than assuming every request uses the same documents. Tampa Police, Hillsborough County Sheriff, and Florida Highway Patrol have different records responsibilities. Match the investigating agency on your paperwork before choosing a portal.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Tampa’s Vision Zero dashboard supports safety work

The city’s Vision Zero program links to a crash dashboard and action-plan resources. These support historical analysis and safety projects, rather than live incident dispatch. Check the period, geographic filter, and measure before comparing a street with Hillsborough County as a whole. A historical crash concentration does not determine fault in an individual case.

FL511 provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
