STATES & DISTRICTS / MINNESOTA / MINNEAPOLIS

Use this Minneapolis guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Confirm availability before submitting the city’s form

Minneapolis asks applicants to contact its Records Information Unit to confirm an accident report is available, then complete the accident-report request form and submit it online. The city says individual accident reports are free.

Access to a complete report is limited to authorized requesters and may require identity or role verification. This is a route for obtaining your report, not an unrestricted database for collecting personal information. Minneapolis records do not automatically cover St. Paul, surrounding suburbs, or state-patrol investigations.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Read High Injury Streets data with its dates

Minneapolis Vision Zero publishes safety statistics and studies, including information on High Injury Streets and people walking or cycling. Historical patterns can support street-safety decisions, but they do not establish current traffic conditions or individual fault. Keep the selected years, geography, and injury definition with any comparison.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
