STATES & DISTRICTS / NEBRASKA / OMAHA

Use this Omaha guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Search Omaha’s city crash-report service

Omaha Police’s accident-report purchase service covers crashes within the city’s corporate limits and a defined recent retention period. The city advises that reports may take several days to appear. Check the current search page for its date coverage and payment requirements.

The department’s general report-request route separately advises waiting at least five business days before requesting a report. Do not assume those two timing statements are interchangeable or guaranteed. A crash in the Omaha metropolitan area but outside city limits may belong to another agency.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Street-safety concerns and report requests are different services

Omaha Public Works’ traffic-safety resources address roadway engineering and related concerns. Those services do not replace police investigation, emergency response, or a request for an existing crash report. Record the specific intersection or road segment when documenting a recurring street-safety issue, and keep that concern separate from your insurance claim and police report.

Nebraska DOT travel information provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
