STATES & DISTRICTS / NORTH CAROLINA / RALEIGH

Use this Raleigh guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.

Check eligibility for Raleigh’s electronic crash reports

Raleigh’s crash database limits electronic access to people involved in a crash and lawyers or insurers representing someone involved. The search asks for the report number without a hyphen and one of the specified driver-license or vehicle identifiers.

Use the official police-report instructions to reach the database and review eligibility. General incident reports follow a separate request route. Do not treat the crash database as an unrestricted public feed, and do not send identity or vehicle documents to Accident Advisory. A state-highway or neighboring-city investigation may need another agency’s process.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT

Safety planning is separate from live dispatch

Raleigh’s Vision Zero and Comprehensive Safety Action Plan resources describe analysis, priorities, and progress in reducing serious harm. These planning resources are not a current incident list. When comparing a corridor, keep the study period and city boundary visible rather than substituting figures for all of Wake County.

DriveNC provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.

Keep a useful record for follow-up

  • Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
  • Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
  • Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
  • List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
