STATES & DISTRICTS / OHIO / COLUMBUS
Use this Columbus guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Find Columbus reports through Ohio’s crash search
Columbus Police says it submits all electronic accident reports to the Ohio Department of Public Safety. The city’s Find Reports page links to that crash-search service, while other record requests use the Public Records Unit’s request route.
Keep the investigating agency, crash date, and police report number. A Columbus-area crash investigated by another Franklin County agency may require different follow-up. Obtaining a copy is separate from filing a new report. If the state search has not received a record, contact the investigating agency rather than concluding that no report exists.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
The High Injury Network supports local investment decisions
Columbus Vision Zero uses a High Injury Network to identify priorities for street-safety work. Read that planning information with its study years and geographic scope. It is not a list of today’s active accidents, and a corridor’s inclusion does not explain who caused an individual collision. Use OHGO separately for highway travel conditions.
Official traffic resources: Columbus area
OHGO provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated Columbus feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
