STATES & DISTRICTS / TENNESSEE / MEMPHIS
Use this Memphis guide to find the correct crash-report request, understand local data coverage, and reach official traffic resources. Start with the investigating agency and report number on your paperwork.
Request a report from Memphis Central Records
Memphis Police Central Records lists online, in-person, mail, and fax routes for crash and incident reports. The office is located at 170 North Main Street, with current suite, contact, and service information on its official page.
Fees can differ by residency and delivery method. Photographs and dispatch recordings are separately listed record types, so do not assume they accompany a basic crash report. Keep the investigating agency and report number available; a Tennessee Highway Patrol investigation follows a different records route from Memphis Police.

LOCAL RESOURCE CONTEXT
The investigating agency determines where to start
Tennessee’s crash-report guidance distinguishes Highway Patrol investigations from reports handled by city police or sheriffs. A Memphis-area location alone does not identify the records custodian. Use the officer’s card or report information to select the route, and keep your insurance claim number separate from the police identifier.
Official traffic resources: Memphis area
Tennessee SmartWay provides regional travel information. Select the relevant roadway, direction, and event category and check the source’s own update time. Coverage may include construction, hazards, and incidents outside city limits; it is not a complete record of all local crashes.
This opens an external service. An automated Memphis feed is not connected here. A missing alert does not mean roads are clear. Do not use traffic maps while driving.
Keep a useful record for follow-up
- Save the investigating agency, report number, date, and precise road or intersection.
- Retain your request confirmation and a dated copy of any report received.
- Keep original photos, repair estimates, and towing or rental receipts together.
- List missing documents or corrections for the records office separately from insurance questions.
